Members of ‘Anonymous' arrested in Italy

Tuesday 5 July 2011

The Postal Police identified the group leader.

The leader, 26, signed the actions as “Thre”.

MILAN – Dawn raids at the home of 36 members of the group of hackers with raids on dozens of sites. The Anonymous are no longer “anonymous”, at least in Italy. With several searches that took place this morning at dawn, the IT police led by Antonio Apruzzese has concluded the investigation stage on the attacks orchestrated by the group of hackers in the last months.

THE HEAD OF THE GROUP.

The Cnaipic of PolCom have also identified the promoter of the group, how we learn, is a 26 year old Italian who lives in Canton Ticino, known as ‘Thre’ in the web (his last name would be Frey). The postal police, with the help of the Ticino cantonal police, has entered his home at dawn to search the machine from which the attacks were managed. Along with him, other 2 hackers were charged, there are as well around 36 computer scientists at the time involved in the investigation of the Police under operation “Secure Italy.” In the group there are also minors. From January up to few hours ago, the demonstrative attacks of the Italian branch of anonymous had hit both the sites of companies such as Eni, Finmeccanica, Post and Unicredit, and those institutions like the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, Palazzo Chigi, and AGCOM, all tagets chosen based on the news or upon decisions relating to the Net. The choice of target would be a vote which affects as well the international network of Anonymous.

THE STRATEGY OF VIMINALE.

The line taken by the Interior Ministry, which in the early months had opted for a soft approach to avoid giving too much importance and visibility to the group, has changed after the latest raids. According to an investigative source, there would be no desire to put a “ban” to the network. They are not pursuing crimes of opinion, but only the damages to the companies that would be large even though the policy of the companies affected is that of not revealing anything. Among the most successful attacks there would be those targeting Eni. The charges should not lead to the arrests, but it could now lead to civil cases. According to sources from the Interior Ministry, the Ministry is now on high alert: in fact, there are not excluded demonstrations of other international branches of Anonymous against the signal given by the Italian Interior Ministry to the italian affiliates.
