Hacker, creeper, soldier, spy?

Matt DeHart Parents Statement.

Matt DeHart is a 30 year-old hacktivist and former soldier from the U.S. who is currently jailed in Lindsay, ON. Matt was tortured by the FBI in August, 2010 while being interrogated about his alleged connections to Anonymous, Wikileaks, and a Russian spy ring as part of a national security investigation. Matt went to Canada seeking asylum in April, 2013 but due to false charges in the U.S., obtaining asylum has been a difficult process. He is being held at Maplehurst Correctional Facility while he awaits his legal fate, which could include extradition to the U.S. to continue what Matt describes as physical and emotional torture. This is unacceptable and illegal.

“When you view some of the allegations that Matthew and his family are making, they kind of strike you as a little bit conspiratorial, a little bit crazy,” said Gabriella Coleman a leading expert on Anonymous at McGill University.

But in this post-WikiLeaks moment, where there have been many leaks that have shown how, under the mantle of security, law enforcement and intelligence organizations have really abused their power, I think we have to take these claims very seriously. This is something we can no longer ignore or brush under the rug as being a crazy conspiracy,” said Gabriella Coleman.

“This case is too important to ignore”

If Matt is deemed inadmissible to Canada, his refugee asylum claim will never be heard. Pending the outcome of any appeal, he would be deported back to the United States.
