Love’s supporters said the Prime Minister had failed to heed the warnings and raise the case with the President, despite "widespread public concern" over the potential consequences of his extradition.
Naomi Colvin, a representative of the Courage Foundation, which runs Lauri Love’s defence fund and support campaign:
"To the best of my knowledge, and that of Lauri’s legal team and his family, the UK Government has not made any kind of representation to Donald Trump asking for us to be able to try Lauri here instead of him being extradited to the United States. More than a hundred MPs signed a letter to Barack Obama last year about Lauri and I don’t think the UK Government did anything to act on those concerns either."
The Courage Foundation is an international organisation that supports those who risk life or liberty to make significant contributions to the historical record. They fundraise for the legal and public defence of specific individuals who fit these criteria and are subject to serious prosecution or persecution. They also campaign for the protection of truthtellers and the public’s right to know generally. When powerful institutions retreat into secrecy, they prevent proper oversight and accountability. Whistleblowers become the public’s regulators and reporters of last resort.
